ROS, RNS production in response to bacteria (R-HSA-1222556) [Homo sapiens]


When engulfed by macrophages, microorganisms are exposed to a number of host defense mechanisms within the resulting phagosome and through its subsequent fusion with lysosomes. These include the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS) (Fang FC et al. 2004; Kohchi C et al. 2009; Gostner JM et al. 2013; Vatansever F et al. 2013)
