Cytosolic glucose 6-phosphate is transported to the endoplasmic reticulum. No chicken transport protein capable of mediating this process has been characterized experimentally, but an open reading frame encoding a protein closely similar to authentic human SLC37A4 is identified by OrthoMCL analysis of the ENSEMBL chicken gene set. This reaction and the localization of the chicken transport protein to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane are inferred from their well-studied human counterparts.
