At the early endosome membrane, phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type 2-alpha/beta (PI4K2A/B) (Balla et al. 2002) phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol (PI) to produce phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P).
