Internalized GJ plaques are degraded by lysosomes. Lysosomal degradation appears to be the most common pathway of GJ degradation. (Qin et al., 2003; Grinzberg and Gilula., 1979 ; Berthoud et al., 2004 ; and Leithe et al., 2006).
