Mevalonate pyrophosphate decarboxylase (MPD) decarboxylates mevalonate-5-pyrophosphate (MVA5PP) into isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPPP) while hydrolysing ATP to ADP and orthophosphate (Toth & Huwyler 1996).
