The mature dimeric BMP2 binds with high affinity to its signalling receptor, the type II receptor serine/threonine kinase. The type II receptor is known to form dimeric complexes even in the absence of BMP2 (Rosenzweig et al.1995). Also, TGFBR3 (Betaglycan) antagonises BMP2 signalling by binding with ACVR2A (ActRII). TGFBR3 and BMP2 compete for ACVR2A and TGFBR3 thus inhibits BMP2 signalling (Waiter et al. 2003).
