Bone morphogenetic protein-1 (BMP1) cleaves the C-terminal propeptide from human procollagen VII within the NC2 domain at the BMP1 consensus cleavage site SYAA|DTAG. Mammalian tolloid-like (mTLL)-1 and -2 can substitute for BMP1 (Ratttenholl et al. 2002).
