Human ficolin-2 (L-ficolin, P35, FCN2) is synthesised in the liver and secreted into the bloodstream where it recognizes various capsulated bacteria and exhibits binding specificity for diverse ligands such as lipoteichoic acid, 1,3-beta-d-glucan and acetylated compounds (Lynch et al. 2004, Aoyagi et al. 2008, Ma et al. 2004, Garlatti et al. 2007, Gout et al. 2010). Ficolin-2 also binds to apoptotic HL60, U937 and Jurkat cells (Kuraya et al. 2005).
