Cytosolic phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD) catalyzes the reaction of 6-phospho-D-gluconate and NADP+ to form D-ribulose 5-phosphate, CO2, and NADPH + H+ (Beutler and Kuhl 1985; Rippa et al. 1998). The PGD enzyme is dimeric (Dallocchio et al. 1985).
