Nucleotide sugar transporter SLC35D2 is inferred to mediate the exchange of UDP-GlcA and UMP across the Golgi membrane, based on the localization of SLC35D2 protein to this membrane (Ishida et al. 2005) and the close structural relationship between SLC35D2 and SLC35D1, which mediates UDP-GlcA transport across the ER membrane (Muraoka et al. 2001).
