Phosphorylated BMAL1:CLOCK bound to an E-box in the CRY1 promoter recruits the histone acetyltransferase CREBBP and the histone methyltransferase KMT2A and enhance transcription of CRY1 (Nakamura et al. 2008, and inferred from mouse homologs). CRY1 is expressed in a circadian rhythm in all tissues tested (inferred from mouse homologs). NPAS2 acts redundantly with CLOCK to form heterodimers with BMAL1 and regulate CRY1 expression (inferred from mouse homologs).
