Inferred from mouse homologs, RAI1 increases transcription of the CLOCK gene (Williams et al. 2012). The CLOCK gene is transcribed (Steeves et al. 1999) in a circadian pattern to yield mRNA and the mRNA is translated to yield CLOCK protein (inferred from mouse homologs). The promoter of the CLOCK gene contains a ROR response element (RRE, RORE) that can bind either RORA or RORC, both of which enhance transcription of CLOCK (inferred from mouse homologs). Transcription of CLOCK is repressed by REV-ERBA (inferred from mouse homologs).
