ACE2 cleaves the C-terminal phenylalanine residue from 1-Ala-AGT(34-41) (Angiotensin A, amino acid sequence Ala-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro-Phe) to yield Alamandine (1-Ala-AGT(34-40), amino acid sequence Ala-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro) (Lautner et al. 2013). Alamandine binds the receptor MRGPRD (MrgD) and may form part of the counter-regulatory (anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory) axis of renin-angiotensin signaling (reviewed in Bader et al. 2024, Proença et al. 2024).
