PDX1 transactivates Lrh1

Pdx1 controls Lrh1 expression. Lrh1 and Pdx1 are co-expressed during pancreatic development in mice. Binding of Pdx1 to the Lrh1 promoter was shown in cultured cells and during pancreatic develpment in vivo by ChIP analysis. Retroviral expression of Pdx1 in pancreatic cells induced Lrh1 transcription, whereas lowering PDX1 levels by RNA interference attenuated Lrh1 expression. Moreover, Pdx1-deficient (PDX1-/-) mice expressed reduced amounts of LRH1 mRNA in the embryonic pancreas (Annicotte et al. 2003).
