Sumoylation of Aurka with Sumo1
Aurka is sumoylated at lysine-249 with Sumo1 (Malumbres et al. 2011). Sumo1, Aurka, and Ube2i (Ubc9) are observed together at centrisomes and the mitotic spindle. Sumoylation is required for proper localization to microtubules of the spindle therefore sumoylated Aurka is assumed to be present on spindles in the cytosol during metphase.
