CK2alpha phosphorylates Bmal1 (Arntl) on serine-97
CK2alpha, the catalytic subunit of casein kinase II (CK2) phosphorylates Bmal1 (Arntl) on serine-97, serine-90 of non-canonical isoforms (Tamaru et al. 2009). The phosphorylation enhances the nuclear accumulation of Arntl (Tamaru et al. 2009). Cry1 mediates the interaction of CK2beta, the regulatory subunit of CK2, with Bmal1, inhibiting the phosphorylation of Bmal1 by CK2alpha (Tamaru et al. 2015).
