CaMKII binds activated GluN1:GluN2B (Grin1:Grin2b) NMDA receptor
Autophosphorylated, calmodulin-bound rat CaMKII binds to activated rat NMDA receptors that contain GluN2B (Grin2b) subunit (Strack and Colbran 1998, Shen and Meyer 1999). Rat CaMKII can bind to NMDA receptor-associated postsynaptic density (PSD) proteins irrespective of its phosphorylation status (Robison et al. 2005), but binding to activated calmodulin is needed for translocation of CaMKII from the cytosol to the postsynaptic density (PSD) (Shen and Meyer 1999).
