SAM50 complex inserts proteins into outer membrane

The SAM50 Complex (TOB55 Complex) inserts mainly beta-barrel proteins into the outer membrane after they have passed from the cytosol, through the TOM70:TOM40 complex, and into the intermembrane space (Kozjak et al. 2003, Ishikawa et al. 2004, Milenkovic et al. 2004, Waizenegger et al. 2004, Habib et al. 2007,Stojanovski et al. 2007, Kutik et al. 2008, Chan and Lithgow 2008). Substrates of the SAM50 complex include TOM40 (Kozjak et al. 2003, Ishikawa et al. 2004, Milenkovic et al. 2004, Waizenegger et al. 2004, Habib et al. 2007, Kutik et al. 2008, Chan and Lithgow 2008), MDM10 (Waizenegger et al. 2004, Habib et al. 2007, Kutik et al. 2008), Porin1 (Kozjak et al. 2003, Ishikawa et al. 2004, Milenkovic et al. 2004, Waizenegger et al. 2004, Habib et al. 2007, Kutik et al. 2008), and TOM22 (Stojanovski et al. 2007).
