NOP2 methylates cytosine-2870 of 25S rRNA yielding 5-methylcytosine-2870

NOP2 methylates the carbon at the 5th position of the cytosine ring at cytidine-2870 in 25S rRNA (Sharma et al. 2013, Bourgeois et al. 2015). NOP2 also has a role in rRNA processing that is independent of its methylase activity (Bourgeois et al. 2015).
