Vitronectin blocks MAC complex formation by inhibiting C9 polymerization.

Vitronectin transcripts were detected in the brain, liver and spleen of adult chickens. The polypeptide sequence of chicken vitronectin exhibits 57% identity with human ortholog. Chicken events involving vitronectin have not been verified experimentally but are inferred from properties of the orthologous human proteins.
