In mammals, extracellular factor H binds negatively-charged carbohydrates on the cell surface. The equivalent events in chicken have not been verified experimentally but are inferred from the orthologous human events. Predicted chicken complement factor H (CFH) shows 38% amino acid sequence identity with human CFH.
