Cytosolic aldolase catalyzes the reversible reaction of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to form dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. In mammals, tissue-specific aldolase isozymes have been characterized. Chicken orthologs of two of these have been found through DNA cloning experiments; the biochemical properties of the proteins they encode have not been determined (Burgess and Penhoet 1985; Meighan-Mantha and Tolan 1995).
