Glucose 6-phosphate is hydrolyzed to yield glucose and phosphate. No chicken enzyme capable of catalyzing this reaction has been identified, although two open reading frames capable of encoding proteins closely similar to authentic glucose 6-phosphatase are inferred by OrthoMCL analysis of the ENSEMBL chicken gene set. This reaction and the localization of the chicken glucose 6-phosphatase enzyme to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane are inferred from its well-studied human counterpart.
