TGF-beta-dependent nuclear accumulation of SMAD2/3 and SMAD4 is mediated by WWTR1 (TAZ). WWTR1 does not affect phosphorylation of SMAD2/3 or the formation of SMAD2/3:SMAD4 trimers.
