VARS (cytosolic valyl tRNA synthetase) catalyzes the reaction of valine, tRNA(Val), and ATP to form Val-tRNA(Val), AMP, and pyrophosphate. The enzyme is a class I tRNA synthetase (Vilalta et al. 1993).
