The human gene SLC30A1 encodes the zinc transporter ZnT1. It is widely expressed throughout the body and it's expression is regulated by zinc. ZnT1 is the only member of the SLC30 gene family that is located on the plasma membrane and mediates the transport of zinc out of the cell (Devergnas S et al, 2004).
