Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors exhibit high influx of Ca2+, the degree of Ca2+ permeability is dependent on the subunit composition; homomeric acetylcholine receptors containing aplha 7 subunits allow maximum Ca2+ influx followed by receptors containing alpha3 beta2 alpha5 or alpha3 beta4 alpha5.
