The level of activated (GTP-bound) RAP1 increases rapidly after HGF stimulation. The recruitment of RAPGEF1 (C3G) to CRK or CRKL bound to MET-phosphorylated GAB1 brings RAPGEF1 to the plasma membrane, where it can act on its substrate, RAP1, catalyzing guanine nucleotide exchange from GDP to GTP (Sakkab et al. 2000, Lamorte et al. 2002).
