Core M3 glycans are initiated by beta-1,4-linked GlcNAc extension of O-mannose and always contain the trisaccharide linker glycan GalNAc-GlcNAc-ManP bound to O-threonines of the core protein. The only glycan known to be bound to Core M3 is matriglycan, a glycosaminoglycan (GAG)-like polysaccharide consisting of a long linear chain of repeating [-3GlcAβ1,3Xylα1-] heterodisaccharide and two ribitolphosphate subunits (reviewed in Praissman & Wells 2014; Katz & Diskin, 2024).
