Constitutively active forms of MAPK1 have been identified at low frequency in a number of cancers (Ojesina et al, 2014; TCGA, 2015). These mutants are not susceptible to DUSP-mediated dephosphorylation and so promote sustained signaling (Brenan et al, 2016).
