The KCNJ2 inward rectifying potassium channel preferentially transports K+ ions from the extracellular region to the cytosol (inferred from the mouse homolog). In type III taste cells, the increase in cytosolic H+ caused by acidic compounds inhibits the activity of KCNJ2 (inferred from mouse homologs in Ye et al. 2016).
