NFE2L2 upregulates BCL2 expression and apoptotic cell death with implications in antioxidant protection, survival of cancer cells, and drug resistance. Mutagenesis and transfection assays identified an antioxidant response element between nucleotides -3148 and -3140 on the reverse strand of the Bcl-2 gene promoter that was essential for the activation of Bcl-2 gene expression (Niture et al 2012)
