TEA domain family proteins (TEAD proteins) expressed in the epiblast during gastrulation bind the YAP1 activator and the core element of the node-notochord enhancer of the forkhead box FOXA2 gene, also called HNF3B (inferred from mouse homologs). SMAD2,3 activated by NODAL signaling (inferred from mouse homologs) interact with the pioneer transcription factor FOXH1 at the FOXA2 promoter to activate transcription of FOXA2 in pluripotent stem cells (Kim et al. 2011 and inferred from mouse homologs) and are inferred to do the same in axial mesoderm. TBXT (T, Brachyury) binds near the transcription start site of the FOXA2 gene (inferred from mouse homologs).
