HOXA11 (or HOXC11 or HOXD11), EYA1, and PAX2 physically associate to form a complex which binds upstream of the transcription start site of the SIX2 gene (inferred from mouse homologs). In mice, Hoxa11, Eya1 and Pax2 are individually unable to activate Six2 expression (Gong et al. 2007).
