Binding of interferon-inducible double-stranded RNA-dependent protein kinase activator A (PRKRA, PACT) to PKR leads to activation of PKR by dimerization and autophosphorylation. The strength of the
PRKRA-PKR interaction depends on PRKRA dimerization and its stress-induced phosphorylation on serine residues 246 and 287 (Patel & Sen, 1998; Peters et al, 2001; Huang et al, 2002; Peters et al, 2006; Chukwurah et al, 2018).
