Activated PKR phosphorylates sphingosin kinase 1 (SPHK1) at S225 in the nucleus, priming it for nuclear export. This process is part of a feedback loop between PKR and SPHK1, activating pro-survival pathways in the cellular response to external stimuli (Qiao et al, 2020).
