Interaction of L1 with Neurocan
L1CAM binds with high affinity to the proteoglycan neurocan. Neurocan binds to the first Ig domain of L1CAM through its sushi module and a chondroitin sulphate chain. This interaction interferes with the homophilic interaction of L1CAM and inhibits neuronal adhesion and neurite extension mediated by L1CAM.
