Cry proteins stabilize unphosphorylated Bmal1:Clock,Npas2
Cry1 and Cry2 bind unphosphorylated Bmal1:Clock/Npas2 (Arntl:Clock/Npas2) heterodimer and stabilize it. The unphosphorylated Bmal1:Clock/Npas2 heterodimer only weakly activates transcription thus this is one mechanism by which Cry proteins repress transcription. This complex may also contain Per proteins and kinases and may be translocated to the nucleus but this is not certain.
