Creb, Srf, and Mef2d bind the ARC gene

Studies in mouse identified a Synaptic Activity Response Element (SARE) ~7kb upstream of the transcription start site that promotes ARC gene transcription under stimulatory synaptic conditions. The SARE contains at least 3 conserved binding regions with consensus sites for Mef2d, Srf and Creb, and EMSA and ChIP confirm binding to these sites (Kawashima et al, 2009).
