Ca2+ binds Kcnip3
Based on studies with mouse Kcnip3, Ca2+ binds to two high-affinity sites in Kcnip3 under physiological conditions, when magnesium is present. In the absence of magnesium, Ca2+ can bind to three sites in Kcnip3. Ca2+ does not disrupt Kcnip3 homotetramers but prevents their binding to target DNA sequences (Osawa et al. 2005).
