RFzd binds trimeric G-proteins
Stimulation of mouse teratocarcinoma cells expressing rat Fzd2 with XWnt5a conditioned medium induces formation of primitive endoderm (PE), a readout for WNT signaling. PE formation is abolished by pre-treatment of cells with pertussis toxin, indicating the involvement of G-proteins (Liu et al, 1999). Similar studies using the Fzd2:beta-adrenergic receptor chimeric protein in zebrafish support a role for G-protein and phosphoinositol signaling downstream of non-canonical WNTs (Slusarski et al, 1997; Liu et al, 1999)
