Src phosphorylates GluN2 (Grin2) subunits of NMDARs
In rat cortical neurons, non-receptor tyrosine kinase Src phosphorylates GluN2 (Grin2, Nr2) subunits of the GluN2-containing NMDA receptors (NMDARs). This increases NMDAR open time and activity (Yu et al. 1997) and plays a role in long-term potentiation. Treatment of rat cortical neurons with Erbb4 ligand Nrg1-beta1 negatively regulates phosphorylation of NMDARs by Src. Treatment of brain slices from Erbb4 knockout mice with Nrg1-beta1 does not affect Src-mediated increase in NMDAR activity (Pitcher et al. 2011).
